Hobbledehoy Record Co began in a suburban bedroom with the goal to have a hand in putting out great records by friends & heroes. A labour of love inspired by the very same people and those who I have been lucky enough to meet along the way.
After just finishing my freshman year of university, I decided to sell my first car and put out a record. Everything was set, the first release was confirmed, the car had been sold and was to be picked up by its new owner in two days time. Of course then, the car was involved in a small accident… the record still went ahead to plan, but I ride my bike a lot now.
Hobbledehoy is home to Arrows, Blueline Medic, The City On Film, Hey Mercedes, Jamie Hay, The Leap Year and Oh Messy Life.

Media Questions:
- Can I have hi-res photos, press releases, etc sent to me? [click here]
- Email info@hobbledehoyrecords.com addressing who you are and what materials you're after, we'll respond with everything you need.
- Can I have promo releases sent to me? [click here]
- If you are active in some form of media (radio / print / web / etc) which is suitable please email info@hobbledehoyrecords.com and we will go from there. Zines are more then welcome!
Me! Me! Me! Questions:
- Do you accept demo material? [click here]
- Releasing something entirely from a demo received doesn't exactly follow with why Hobbledehoy was set-up, but submissions are always welcome and everything received will get a listen. A lot of records come in so please understand not every one can be responded too.
- Can you book a show for my band? [click here]
- Sorry, but booking shows was taking away too much time from the label. I still continue to book shows but only on a very small scale for label artists and friends. If your band wishes to play a show with a Hobbledehoy artist please get into contact with them directly.
- I book DIY shows, can I get a Hobbledehoy artist to play? [click here]
- Sounds wonderful, get in touch!
- Can I do work experience at Hobbledehoy? [click here]
- Unfortunately not. I seem to get flooded with emails in regards to this the same time each year. Eventually I would love to accommodate students, but at this stage I don’t think your school would appreciate you gaining ‘experience’ within a young male’s bedroom.
- Does Hobbledehoy have a street team? [click here]
- Not exactly, but we are always interested in people promoting Hobbledehoy artists in creative ways. So if you have a love of all things Hobbledehoy drop us a line on info@hobbledehoyrecords.com with what you had in mind. There's already a small handful of people all across the country that get free new releases because of their awesomeness, so don't be afraid!
- How do I start up my own label? [click here]
- Put out some records, do your own thing and be nice. Good start! ...prepare to thin out your wallet.
Label Questions:
- Where is Hobbledehoy located? [click here]
- In the lovely garden state of Victoria, Australia. More specifically… my small bedroom.
- What does the name actually mean? [click here]
- It's clever I swear!
- I heard you were releasing (insert band name here) but you didn't? [click here]
- Well... you heard wrong then!
- What is the connection between Hobbledehoy Records and Hobbledehoy Productions? [click here]
- Hobbledehoy Records has no real business or financial link to Hobbledehoy Productions, it's simply two people operating in different fields but sharing the name. Hobbledehoy Productions is the title in which my longtime friend Caleb McKenny banners film projects he has directed. Some of his early work included a music video for Oh Messy Life.
Purchasing Questions:
- Where can I buy Hobbledehoy releases from? [click here]
- Depending on where you are located this can become a very tricky question to answer, asking your local independent record store to carry our music helps us out a lot! Most Australian independents will have Hobbledehoy releases, and although our catalog is available in both independent and larger chain stores I strongly encourage you to buy from independent retailers. Otherwise you can buy directly from our online E-Store. Wholesale distribution is handled by Poison City in Australia and Lumberjack Mordam for the rest of the world.
- How do the digital release downloads work? [click here]
- Digital releases are available through all the usual outlets like iTunes, eMusic, etc. Alternatively you can purchase higher quality (320 kbps) DRM-Free MP3 releases directly from the label by clicking the relevant 'Buy Digital Download' text. Some releases have noted exclusive tracks to the physical release while others remain consistent. A strong effort has been made to keep physical releases affordable... because digital is boring!
